Lift Off | Installation, Performative actions on two locations: Centraal Museum, AG Gallery |Group exhibition | Utrecht | 2022

Lift Off was an exhibition curated by Menno Vuister, showcasing the work of 22 selected alumni from the Fine Art bachelor’s program who graduated in 2020 and 2021. To mark the opening, I was invited to create a performative piece spanning two locations.

At these sites, audiences were encouraged to explore and discover traces of performative actions, following the performers both at the locations themselves and along the path connecting them. At the heart of the performance was a 62-meter textile rope, set in motion with deliberate slowness to evoke the passage of time. This contrasted with a more rigid, logical perception—where time, materialized as an object, was measured in meters, and where distance defined the duration of the performance.

Meanwhile, two additional performers were tasked with disorienting the audience—sometimes guiding them toward their destination, other times leading them astray. This interplay of direction and misdirection was designed to challenge perception, sparking curiosity and suspense while also testing the viewers' patience.
